Most people who want to lose weight do not know how many calories they are taking in each day. One way to find out is to keep a food log for a few days. Not only will you be surprised to find out how many calories that food item cost you but it also can be an eye opener to finding out where most of your calories are coming from.
Check out the BMI chart to find where you are. Even a modest weight loss can reduce waist circumference which is another measurement of obesity. Males with waist circumference >40 inches and females >35 inches are obese. If your an Asian American, >35 inches for men and >31 inches for women are considered obese.
To measure waist circumference locate top of right iliac crest(top of hip bone) and place tape in a horizontal plane at level of iliac crest. Tape should be snug and parallel to floor. Measure at the end of a normal expiration.
Starting a walking program can be very beneficial for weight loss. Spend the money for a good pair of walking or running shoes. You don't want an injury to side line you just as your beginning your exercise program.
